His occupation at the time was a miner, living at McIvor. McIvor was a large goldfield, now the Heathcote area in Victoria.

Started the Sandhurst Grammar School in 1861

In 1861 started a newspaper in Sandhurst (Bendigo) called Pasquin. This ran for 196 editions over two years.
Was the pricipal at he Sandhurst Grammar School in Williamson Street cnr Myers St, which was started about 1/10/1860 by C O Helm, MA a graduate of Oxford and Melbourne. Williamson St was both the school and WHCH's residence. He taught there until 1868 when the school was taken over by Mr Moran. Subjects were Arithmetic, bookkeeping, Lain, French, mathematics, grammar, geography, drawing, music etc.

Whilst working as a teacher at Sandhurst (Bendigo) the house that he was renting at Quarry Hill burned down after a series of arson attempts. He was charged with arson along with his assistant Dury, who had also been living in the same house and both were imprisoned after the inquest in February 1865, later to be allowed bail in April 1865.

He was given one month's training at Albury Public School in May 1874 and recognised as a teacher at Wagra Provisional School (?near Tumut) from 1st June 1874. He was then appointed conditionally at the teacher for Wagra Public School from 1st June 1875. On 9th May 1879 he was transferred to Morebinger Public School.
He was given a trial teaching position at Burrumbuttock 28th July, 1882 and later given temporary charge at Burrumbuttock n 13th December, 1892. On 18th June 1883 he sat his exams and failed. For reasons not stated he was awarded the classification of IIIC on 1st January 1884 however, as per a ministerial decision, this was cancelled on 7th May and he was informed that he would be moved to a provisional school on account of the unsatisfactory condition of the school. As a result he was removed from Burrumbuttock and sent to Brocklesby School on 14th August, 1884. He was deemed eligible for the Class IIIC on 30th January 1885 except that his practical skills were not up to that grade. His skills were reported to be up to grade and a parchment certificate for grade Class IIIC issued was issued on 6th August 1885. In 1889 to 1891 he received warnings that his performance was not up to standard. He was appointed to Hopefield Public School on 12th January, 1892. Further warnings were issues in 1892 and again in 1900

William the elder son of Charles Baldwyn and Catherine Childe assumed his mother's name on her death. He was a great Agriculturist and a well-known rider to hounds by which he gained the soubriquet of " the flying Childe." He married Annabella, the daughter of Sir Charlton Leighton of Loton, and died 1828 in London from an accidental fall and is buried at Kinlet. He was succeeded by his only son William Lacon Childe, M.P., who was born Jan. 3rd, 1784, and died Dec. 12th, 1880.

Charles Baldwyn was born 1729 and married in 1752 the heiress of Kinlet. He was reeklessly extravagant and with the unwilling consent of his son he sold all his own estates for which he had to obtain a special Act of Parliament, dissipated the purchase money and died and is buried at Eastbourne. Mrs. Baldwyn died of small-pox in 1770 and the Kinlet estates devolved by her father's will on her eldest son William Baldwyn, then a boy at Harrow, with a request that he should assume the name of Childe. Another son Charles Baldwyn died unmarried 1811, and a daughter Catherine Baldwyn also unmarried was buried at Kinlet 1838. William the elder son of Charles Baldwyn and Catherine Childe assumed his mother's name on her death.

Benjamin was born in Broseley on April 2, 1769 and his parents were Silvanus and Eleanor Ball (?), there were 12 children in this family.

We know that Benjamin’s wife’s name was Sarah and the only record that I can find of Benjamin Ball marrying was to Sarah Cotton on October 9, 1803 at Newbold Verdon, Leicester, this town being 77 kilometres from Broseley. They must have settled in Madeley following their marriage because there are records of their 9 children being christened there

A Benjamin Ball leased a warehouse and land at Willey wharf in 1816 and between 1817 and 1838 he leased the Swinney iron foundry from the Willey estate. It stood beside the railway from Willey ironworks, on the site of the public house of 1790. Possibly he was the Benjamin Ball who managed the Barnett’s Leasow furnaces in Broseley. The Iron Bridge, from Benthall to Madeley Wood, opened in 1780. At first the road from the bridge to the Wenlock-Broseley turnpike ran through Benthall parish. In 1828 a new route from Ironbridge was built using the parish poor as labourers: from the bridge it ran east for 1 km. before turning south for 1.5 km., past a tollhouse, to the south end of Broseley town. Among those involved in its construction were Benjamin Ball, manager of James Foster's Barnett's Leasow ironworks from C.1821 and Silvanus Ball, a Broseley ironfounder. A private carriageway, with a lodge at its entrance, extended from the road to Willey Hall.

Maybe something untoward happened in Broseley around this time as in the 1841 Census we find Benjamin, occupation contractor, age 70 , living near Blaenavon at Llanover, Upper Monmouthsire. The household consists of Benjamin and Sarah, Amelia, Ebenezer and Frances Hughes who is the daughter of Mary Anne and her husband, William Henry Hughes. There is also a lodger, Reed William Bakes who was a Westleyan Minister. There was a large Iron Foundry at Blaenavon.

In 1841 Sarah’s death is registered at Pontypool, Monmouthsire.

The 1851 Census shows Benjamin, retired iron founder, living with his daughter, Maria, who is shown as the head of the household and curate, school keeper. As well there is Henry, brother of Maria, age 28, grocer: Frances Hughes, neice, age 25; George Pascoe 7, Henry Pascoe 5, nephews-sons of Amelia, and Mary Smith housemaid.

Benjamin’s death is listed as in the March quarter, 1852.

Dot Singe has him as a high official in the Anglican Church
